Steam hits new record, exceeds 43.5 million concurrent users
Steam has reached a new concurrent user peak of over 43.5 million, with over 14.3 million users in-game
Steam’s user base is continuing to grow. Over the weekend, the platform’s player count hit a new high with over 43.5 million users online and over 14.3 million users in-game. That’s over 1 million more active Steam users and players than the January 2026 record.
Over the past five years, Steam’s user base has grown significantly. In October 2021, Steam’s concurrent player record was 26.7 million. Today it’s over 65% higher than that. That’s a clear sign the PC market is growing, and Valve is one of its biggest beneficiaries. Despite competition from the Epic Games Store, Steam remains PC’s dominant gaming platform.

The past few years have been good for Steam. Publishers such as Xbox, EA, and Ubisoft have returned to Steam after periods of game exclusivity on their own PC storefronts. As it stands, nobody has what it takes to dethrone Valve.
While supply chain issues have hampered the adoption of Valve’s Steam Hardware, that hasn’t stopped Valve’s Steam platform from growing. With more active users and active players, Valve has proven that Steam’s user base can grow despite a difficult hardware market. Even as new hardware becomes increasingly expensive, more gamers are using Steam.
