Formlabs transforms at-home resin 3D printing with its Form Studio 1
Formlabs’ Form Studio 1 is a resin printing game-changer
Formlabs is well known for its professional 3D printers, but with its new Studio 1, the company has brought resin 3D printing out of the workshop and into the home. No, this doesn’t just mean that the Form Studio 1 is more affordable; it also means that it is home-safe. This resin 3D printer doesn’t need an enclosure for containment or ventilation equipment to be safe to use.
With Form Studio 1, Formlabs didn’t just strip features from its professional printers to hit a lower price point. The Form Studio 1 was built from the ground up as an end-to-end ecosystem that makes resin 3D printing safer and easier. That means strong printer profiles, a high printing success rate (Formlabs rates it at 98%), and a simple workflow.
The Form Studio 1 uses an all-new print engine based on Formlabs’ proven Low Force Display (LFD). The printer uses a custom lens array and 28 LEDs to deliver a uniform, highly collimated 6 mW/cm2 light field to cure resin quickly and evenly. It also uses a custom display with 35 μm pixels and a custom finely-tuned anti-aliasing feature to deliver smooth, clean prints while capturing maximum detail. The printer also supports 3rd-party materials, if users choose to use them.
Safe resin 3D printing with a UL GREENGUARD Gold Certifications
With a fully enclosed print chamber (the door stays closed) and Formlabs’ low-odour Alpha resin, you can use the Form Studio 1 safely out of the box, without a tent, enclosure, or dedicated ventilation. If users pair this printer with Formlabs’ VOC extractor, emissions can be reduced to less than 220 μg/m3, allowing the printer to meet the UL 2819 GREENGUARD Gold indoor air quality standard.

The UL GREENGUARD Gold Certification Standard is an elevated certification, providing greater protection for sensitive groups. This certification highlights its role in contributing to healthier environments where safety and well-being is paramount. UL GREENGUARD GOLD sets even lower VOC emission limits, making it the optimal certification for products in nurseries, schools, healthcare facilities, and homes where children’s safety is paramount. In addition to limiting emissions of more than 360 VOCs and total chemical emissions, UL GREENGUARD Gold Certified products must also comply with the requirements of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Standard Method for the Testing and Evaluation of Volatile Organic Chemical Emissions from Indoor Sources Using Environmental Chambers, also known as California Section 01350.
Formlabs’ new Alpha resins are certified for long-term skin contact (>30 day) in accordance with ISO 10993. This means that printed parts are non-cytotoxic, non-irritating, and non-sensitising after recommended post-processing. There are six new Alpha series resins Grey, White, Black, Clear, Model, and Fast.
Safety taken seriously
Formlabs has taken safety seriously, and that is refreshing. With Alpha resins and proper use, the Formlabs Studio 1 may be the safest consumer resin 3D printer on the market. No other consumer-grade resin 3D printer has UL GREENGUARD Gold certification. In this regard, the Form Studio 1 is truely groundbreaking.
Low Pricing and Founders Edition models
The Formlabs Form Studio 1 is available to order today from £658.80 in the UK and $699 in the US. Alpha resins start at $29 per litre. At launch, the Form Studio 1 Founders Edition will be available in graphite and three limited-edition colours. These are aqua, teal, and violet. These models will be available until November 30th 2026, or while supplies last.
Accessories
The Form Studio 1 launches alongside a new Studio Wash+Cure station for post-processing, and a VOC Extractor add-on that lowers VOC levels. The Form Mobile App is also available and can control the Form Studio 1, Form 4, and Form 4L printers remotely. The printer also has two build platform options, “Standard” and “Flex”.
Strong software with a solid build area
The Form Studio 1 supports Formlabs’ software, renowned for high printing success rates and strong automatic print supports. With well-calibrated resins, Formlabs claims the Studio 1 has a print success rate similar to its professional-grade Form 4 printer. The printer also has a 200mm x 125mm x 235mm build area, providing 5.9 litres of build space.
Another strong benefit of Formlabs’ ecosystem is its wealth of tutorials, how-to guides, and support. Unlike other manufacturers, Formlabs wants to teach users how to use and maintain its 3D printers effectively.
Overall, the Form Studio 1 seems to bring the best parts of Formlabs’ professional 3D printers to a much more cost-effective consumer product. With its UL GREENGUARD Gold Certification, it’s also the only resin 3D printer certified for safe home use (with selected resins).
