AMD FSR 4.1 rolls out to ASUS’ ROG Xbox Ally X and X20
ASUS releases its FSR 4.1 Preview to its ROG Xbox Ally handhelds
ASUS has officially released a new preview update for its ROG Xbox Ally X and ROG Xbox Ally X20 handhelds, enabling AMD FSR 4.1 upscaling on both devices. With this update, gamers can now benefit from higher-quality ML-based upscaling, delivering better performance and higher image quality.
To access this update, ROG Ally users should open Armoury Crate, go to its Update Center and enable preview updates. This lets you download the ROG Ally’s newest GPU driver. Note that ASUS’s baseline ROG Xbox Ally console does not support this driver. However, ASUS has confirmed that FSR 4.1 support is coming to its lower-end ROG Xbox Ally handheld.
AMD’s newest FSR 4.1 models are designed to enable maximised performance while retaining the image quality benefits of its higher-end FSR 4 models. Compared with FSR 2 and FSR 3, AMD’s FSR 4.1 delivers much higher levels of image quality, especially when upscaling from low resolutions. This makes FSR 4.1 support a major upgrade for portable devices like ASUS’ ROG Xbox Ally.
To access FSR 4.1 in supported games, you need to install ASUS’ preview update and enable FSR Upscaling in ASUS’ Command Center app or AMD’s Software Adrenalin Edition. This will allow your device to replace a game’s native FSR implementation with AMD’s FSR 4.1 upscaler if AMD’s “FSR Upgrade” feature is supported. This applies to most games with FSR 3.1 or newer.
AMD says that FSR “Redstone” is available in over 400 games. A full list of supported games is available here. All of these games support FSR 4.1 upscaling.
