Nvidia hasn’t sent RTX 5080 24GB design kits to partners – report claims

New leak puts Nvidia’s January 2027 RTX 5080 24GB launch into doubt

Nvidia is reportedly behind schedule on its planned RTX 5080 24GB graphics card, missing an October deadline to supply GPU design kits to partners. According to Benchlife, Nvidia’s partners currently lack the information needed to design and develop new graphics cards. This casts doubt on Nvidia’s rumoured January release timeline.

Rumour has it that Nvidia plans to replace its RTX 5080 16GB with a new 24GB model. This comes as RTX 5080 GPUs are skyrocketing in price at retailers. This new model will fit somewhere between Nvidia’s RTX 5080 and RTX 5090, though its specifications and price remain unclear.

Videocardz has reported that GPU board partners need at least six weeks to launch new GPUs after receiving the necessary design details. That was under normal market conditions. Today, with limited memory supply and increased competition for manufacturing materials, it is likely that GPU makers now need much more time.

NVIDIA originally planned to release design information for the GeForce RTX 5080 24GB in October, but as of the end of October, NVIDIA had still not provided the relevant information to its AIC partners for development and design.

Given the current state of PCB material availability and the shortage of other components, it will be quite challenging for NVIDIA to officially launch the product in January without providing design information.

On the other hand, news that NVIDIA planned to launch the GeForce RTX 5080 24GB in January 2027 had already been circulating internally since September. However, based on the current timeline, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 24GB is unlikely to happen in January. As for when NVIDIA will actually launch the GeForce RTX 5080 24GB, that depends on when its AIC partners receive the design data from NVIDIA.

Benchlife now believes that a January 2027 launch is unlikely for Nvidia’s rumoured RTX 5080 24GB. Even so, Nvidia could still announce the new GPU at CES 2027 but launch it later in Q1.

What remains unclear is what will happen to Nvidia’s RTX 5080 16GB and RTX 5090. It is also unclear how a 24GB RTX 5080 will address any of the problems facing today’s PC market. A 24GB RTX 5080 is an RTX 5080 that is more expensive to produce. How does a GPU with more memory help Nvidia during a memory shortage? How will this GPU impact consumers? To say the least, Nvidia’s RTX 5080 24GB is a strange product.
