HBO accidentally leaks next week’s Game of Thrones Episode

In recent months HBO has been suffering from a string of major leaks, with the most notable of these leaks coming as a result of a major cyber attack that allowed episodes and scripts for several major TV shows to be leaked and distributed online.

Today it has been revealed that HBO has accidentally leaked episode 6 of their latest season of Game of Thrones, a full four days before the episode is set to officially go live. Last night, HBO subscribers in Spain were able to watch next week’s episode of Game of Thrones, which has also allowed people to record and then distribute the episode on torrent sites.

HBO was able to quickly address this issue and take the episode down, though that was not fast enough to prevent the episode from becoming available to pirates. Below is HBO’s official statement on the leak, which was originally sent to The Verge.

We have learned that the upcoming episode of Game of Thrones was accidentally posted for a brief time on the HBO Nordic and HBO España platforms. The error appears to have originated with a third-party vendor and the episode was removed as soon as it was recognised. This is not connected to the recent cyber incident at HBO in the US.

With the leaking of Episode 6, we recommend that fans of the series be careful to avoid spoilers until the episode’s official release on TV and official streaming platforms.
