Noctua launches NM-DD1 direct-die mounting kits for delidded Ryzen AM5 CPUs

Noctua officially supports users of delidded Ryzen AM5 processors with their new NM-DD1 mounting kit upgrades

Noctua has been working with the world renowned overclocker Roman “der8auer” Hartung to create a product that will allow their CPU coolers to support direct-die CPU cooling when used with AMD’s Ryzen 7000 series processors. This product is Noctua’s new NM-DD1 mounting spacer kit, which allows a variety of Noctua CPU coolers to be mounted on AMD Ryzen 7000 series CPUs that have had their integrated heat spreader (IHS) removed.

Direct-die cooling can result in more efficient thermal transfers between processors and connected heatsinks, resulting in lower CPU thermals. This can allow overclockers to push for higher performance levels from their processors, but for most users direct-die cooling is used to lower CPU thermals and allow system to run cooler and quieter.

With Noctua’s new NM-DD1 mounting kit spacer kit and a delidded Ryzen 7000 series processor, Noctua has stated that users can see CPU thermals drop by between 10 and 15 degrees celcius. This is a huge drop in CPU temperatures, but it is worth noting that CPU delidding is a risky process that can result in damage to your processor, turning it into an expensive paperweight.

With CPU delidding being a niche process, Noctua has decided not to release their new NM-DD1 direct-die mounting kit upgrades at retailers. Instead Noctua are selling these kits from their website to users who want them, only charging buyers a €4.90 service fee for the part.

To order Noctua’s upgrade mounts, you can fill out Noctua’s we-based order form here. Alternatively, Noctua has released 3D printable files for these mounting kit upgrades.

The mounting kit upgrade is free for owners of 3D Printers

Over at Printables, the 3D printing file sharing platform that is operated by Prusa Printers, Noctua has shared STL files that fans can use to 3D print their own NM-DD1 direct die spacers for their own Noctua CPU coolers. This allows Noctua fans to freely access these mounting kit upgrades, and print them at a minimal cost.

Noctua has released several models over on the 3D Printables website, giving 3D printer users access to a variety of free spacers, adaptors, and upgrade parts for their heatsinks. You can view all of Noctua’s 3D printable models here.
