3D V-Cache for Laptops – AMD’s Ryzen X3D tech is coming to an ASUS ROG Laptop

3D V-Cache for Laptops - AMD's Ryzen X3D tech is coming to an ASUS ROG Laptop

AMD’s Ryzen 9 7945HX3D is bringing AMD’s V-Cache technology to laptops

It looks like AMD are planning to bring their 3D V-Cache technology into the laptop market, and that they are working with ASUS to bring it to market in their latest ROG SCAR 17 system. This system is said to feature AMD’s unreleased and unrevealed Ryzen 9 7945HX3D processor, an enhanced version of AMD’s 16-core Ryzen 9 7945HX processor.

AMD’s Ryzen 9 7945HX3D processor features 128MB of L3 cache and sixteen Zen 4 CPU cores over two chiplets. One chiplet will feature eight CPU cores and 96MB of L3 cache (32MB of standard L3 64MB of 3D V-Cache), while the other will feature 8 cores and 32MB of standard L3 Cache. This trait makes AMD’s Ryzen 9 7945HX3D processor similar to AMD’s Ryzen 9 7000X3D series of desktop processors.

With AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology, AMD’s Ryzen 9 7945HX3D processor will be able to handle many workloads more efficiently than its non-X3D counterpart, potentially enabling higher levels of battery life in some scenarios. Additionally, the added L3 cache could accelerate some workloads by allowing AMD’s new processor to keep more data on chip, allowing said data to be accessed and worked on much faster.

In the consumer market, AMD’s X3D technology has been primarily marketed at gamers, users who benefit greater from faster memory access speeds. With L3 cache offering more bandwidth and lower latencies than DRAM, CPUs with enlarged L3 caches can accelerate workloads that fit inside them, with many games benefiting from the technology. With V-Cache, AMD’s Ryzen 7000HX3D mobile processors could be the fastest gaming CPUs available, and the most efficient.

Early leaks have suggested that there will be models of ASUS’ new ROG SCAR 17 laptop that will feature AMD’s Ryzen 9 7945HX3D processor, 32GB of DDR5 memory, and up to an RTX 4090 mobile graphics card. This could make ASUS’ ROG new ROG SCAR laptop the most powerful gaming laptop available.

At this time, it is unknown if AMD are planning to release an 8-core Ryzen 7000HX3D laptop at some point in the future, a processor that should offer gamers more value than AMD’s 16-core Ryzen 9 7945HX3D.
