AMD Ryzen 9 9900X Price Cut? AMD’s new 12-core is already discounted

Early Zen 5 discount? AMD’s Ryzen 9 9900X already has a 7% price cut

AMD’s official MSRP for their new Ryzen 9 9900X is £459.99, but it looks like retailers are already selling AMD’s new 12-core Zen 5 CPU with a price cut. Today, we spotted a Ryzen 9 9900X available for £428.99 in the UK. That’s a 7% discount over AMD’s official MSRP. Not bad for a CPU that isn’t even a week old.

We reviewed AMD’s Ryzen 9 9900X and Ryzen 9 9950X last week. Overall, our opinions are mixed. That said, there are workloads that can greatly benefit from AMD’s architectural improvements with Zen 5. Sadly, these workloads aren’t the gaming workloads that many PC builders focus on.

This price drop on Amazon UK is a clear sign of AMD’s troubled Zen 5 CPU launch. Currently, it is unknown when AMD will be able to address some of the Zen 5 issues spotted by reviewers. Beyond that, a Windows bug is also hampering the gaming performance of all modern AMD Zen CPUs.

So far, AMD’s Zen 5 CPU launch has been disappointing. Currently, it is unknown if AMD plans to boost their Zen 5 CPU sales with official discounts, or if post-launch updated will be able to turn-around AMD’s Zen 5 launch issues.
