AMD Zen 6 Ryzen IPC gains leak – More per-clock oomph
More oomph per clock – AMD Zen 6 IPC gains leak
Alleged IPC numbers for AMD’s upcoming Zen 6 Ryzen CPUs have leaked, showing notable performance gains for the company’s next-generation CPUs. IPC (Instructions Per Cycle) measures a CPU/GPU’s performance per clock cycle. If a new architecture features higher IPC, it means it will deliver higher performance without needing a clock-speed increase.
The leaker adroc_thurston on the Anandtech Forums (who uses different aliases on other platforms) has stated that AMD’s Zen 6 architecture will deliver IPC gains of approximately 13% over Zen 5. Note that IPC values are often averages, as IPC gains are highly workload-specific. Architectural changes may greatly benefit CPU/GPU performance in some workloads but do almost nothing in others.
Rumour has it that AMD’s Zen 6 Ryzen CPUs will feature much higher clock speeds than their predecessors. If true, Zen 6’s IPC boost will be further enhanced by higher clock speeds. More performance per clock and higher clock speeds can add up to a tremendous performance increase for many workloads.

A Zen 4 repeat?
Note that AMD’s Zen 4 architecture delivered a 13% IPC increase alongside notable clock speed gains over Zen 3. AMD uses leapfrogging design teams, and that means that AMD’s Zen 4 team worked on Zen 6. If these reported IPC numbers are correct, AMD could deliver Zen 3-to-Zen 4-like gains with its Zen 5-to-Zen 6 generational leap. That’s great news for PC enthusiasts.
Strong IPC gains alongside clock speed gains could give AMD a larger-than-normal performance leap with Zen 6. Higher clock speeds should boost all CPU workloads. Add on IPC gains, and some workloads could see tremendous performance increases. If AMD achieves both with Zen 6, some workloads may see tremendous gains. That said, it remains to be seen what workloads AMD’s IPC gains will enhance.

Zen 6 rumours
There have been many Zen 6 CPU leaks over the past year. If they are true, AMD’s Zen 6 Ryzen CPUs should deliver impressive performance levels. AMD is reportedly increasing its CPU CCD size from eight cores to twelve cores. That’s a 50% increase in core count and L3 cache size. Since cache size is what makes AMD’s X3D CPUs phenomenal for gaming, this change should greatly improve AMD’s gaming performance. Both AMD’s non-X3D and X3D CPUs should feature increased L3 Cache sizes with Zen 6.
Additionally, AMD’s Zen 6 CPUs will reportedly feature a “latency revolution” and support higher memory clock speeds. New chiplet interconnect tech and faster memory support should lower memory latency and increase memory bandwidth. Both can enable performance boosts for AMD’s Zen 6 CPUs. Note that these changes can impact the gaming performance of AMD’s new GPUs, a key workload for the consumer CPU market.
With rumours of strong IPC gains, higher clock speeds and other architectural improvements, AMD’s Zen 6 CPUs are shaping up to be legendary products. Will these rumours be true? Who knows. We will find out more when AMD officially launches its Zen 6 Ryzen CPUs. Right now, we expect AMD to launch its Zen 6 desktop products sometime in 2027.
