ASRock updates its AM5 motherboard lineup to address Ryzen 9000 CPU boot issues
ASRock updates its entire AM5 lineup after Redditors uncover issues
ASRock has officially released their 3.20 beta BIOS updates for their AM5 series motherboards, addressing the Ryzen 9000 “CPU boot issues.” These issues were recently uncovered by the PC building community.
These updates were released after Redditors found that ASRock motherboards accounted for a majority of reported Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU failures. Note that ASRock motherboards were not killing AMD’s CPUs. Regardless, ASRock’s motherboards were giving some Ryzen 9000 CPU users “boot issues and error codes.”
ASRock claims these issues only impacted a “minority proportion of AMD Ryzen 9000 series processors.” However, it should be noted that this issue was addressed over three months after the release of AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D and over six months after the release of AMD’s Ryzen 9000 series.
Below is ASRock’s statement on the matter.
TAIPEI, Taiwan, 25th February, 2025 – ASRock, a global leader in motherboards, graphics cards, mini PCs, power supplies, and gaming monitors, has observed reports on Reddit from users experiencing unexpected boot issues and error codes when using ASRock AM5 motherboards paired with minority proportion of AMD Ryzen 9000 series processors. To enhance user experience, ASRock promptly released the latest 3.20 Beta BIOS for its AM5 series motherboards, further improving AMD Ryzen 9000 series processors boot issues.
Users can download and install the BIOS from the official ASRock website or use the BIOS Flashback function on their motherboard for a quick update. ASRock also promises to continue enhancing the compatibility of its products.

Let’s be clear here, ASRock messed up. Thankfully, ASRock were able to quickly address the Ryzen 9000 reliability issues with new AM5 motherboard updates. Even so, this happened after the PC community found that their motherboards were more unreliable than boards from other brands. On a list of 42 cases of Ryzen 7 9800X3D failures, ASRock motherboards accounted for 32 cases. That’s not a good look.
The good news is that ASRock’s problems were compatibility issues. Regardless, users with affected CPUs had issues that made them think their CPUs were faulty. Furthermore, this happened with BIOS versions that promised to be Ryzen 9000 ready.
