ASUS confirms AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 CPU in review video

ASUS China includes “9950X3D2” folder in Ryzen 7 9850X3D video review

In a new video on bilibili, ASUS China’s Tony Yu has seemingly confirmed that AMD’s next CPU will be the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2. In their AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D video review, ASUS China displayed a folder labelled “9950X3D2” on-screen. The existence of this folder implies that ASUS is testing/validating this new CPU for AMD. In other words, ASUS may have confirmed that this long-rumoured processor exists.

Sadly, the contents of this folder are unknown. However, the idea behind the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is simple. Take two Ryzen 7 9850X3D CPU CCDs and use them together to create a 16-core dual-X3D CPU. This will create a CPU with 192MB of total L3 cache (96MB per CCD). With AMD’s newer/faster X3D chiplets, this new CPU reportedly delivers higher single- and multi-threaded performance than AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X3D.

Recently leaked benchmarks for AMD’s 9950X3D2 CPU showcase notable performance gains over AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X3D. However, it is unknown how much AMD’s extra X3D chiplet will impact gaming workloads. Is having an extra X3D chiplet beneficial? Hopefully we will find out soon.
