Gigabyte adds “Next Gen” CPU support to its TRX50 motherboards
It looks like Ryzen Threadripper 9000 is about to arrive
Motherboard manufacturers are getting ready for the next generation of Ryzen Threadripper. Gigabyte (via HXL) has added “Next Gen” CPU support to its TRX50 series motherboards. These “next gen” CPUs are undoubtedly AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper 9000 series processors, Zen 5 variants of the company’s existing Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series models.
Thanks to Gigabyte’s BIOS updates, we now know that AMD’s next-generation Threadripper CPUs will be supported on today’s TRX50 series motherboards. That’s great news for users who want to upgrade.
According to HXL, AMD’s new Zen 5 Threadripper CPUs are called “Shimada Peak”. These CPUs will replace AMD’s Zen 4 Ryzen Threadripper 7000 “Storm Peak” processors.

AMD plans to reveal “key products” at Computex 2025. These “key reveals” could include the launch of next-gen Ryzen Threadripper 9000 for TRX50 platforms. If that is the case, these new CPUs will be revealed next month.
Currently, the pricing and specifications of AMD’s new Threadripper CPUs are unknown. However, it is likely that AMD’s new processors will simply be Zen 5 upgrades of their existing Threadripper 7000 counterparts. If that is the case, core counts between 12 and 96 will be available.
