Intel broadens their 13th/14th Gen CPU Warranty Extension program
Intel’s 13th/14th generation CPU warranty extension now applies to boxed, OEM, and tray processors
Last week, Intel announced that they were offering users of boxed 13th/14th generation processors a two-year CPU warranty extension. Now, Intel has confirmed that this warranty extension now applies to boxed, OEM, and tray processors, and has confirmed which CPU models are covered by this extension.
This warranty extension comes as a result of the ongoing Intel Raptor Lake instability saga. Basically, a larger number of Intel Raptor Lake base CPUs have been found to be unstable, causing crashes in games and other applications. Following a lengthy investigation, Intel found that an issue involving “elevated operating voltage(s)” have damaged some 13th/14th generation CPUs, causing instability.
This warranty extension covers all of Intel’s K, KF, and KS series overclockable products. It also covers a number of non-K Raptor Lake series processors. This includes several 65W CPU models.
With this warranty extension, users of Intel 13th/14th generation processors can have a warranty of up to five years.
Following Intel’s earlier announcement regarding two (2) year warranty extension – from date of purchase, up to a maximum of five (5) years – on Intel Core 13th/14th desktop processors, please see below for additional details on the program.
Intel Core 13th/14th Gen Desktop Boxed/Tray CPUs
Warranty extension applies to new & previously purchased processors, if they are one of the Intel Core 13th/14th Gen SKUs listed above. This warranty coverage applies to all customers globally.
Standard warranty process and terms apply – which you can review here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000024255/processors.html.
For users who are or have previously experienced instability symptoms on their Intel Core 13th/14th Gen Desktop processors and need to initiate the exchange process:
- Boxed Processors – please contact Intel Customer Support for further assistance.
- Tray Processors – please contact your place of purchase for further assistance.
- OEM/System Integrator Intel Core 13th/14th Gen-powered desktop system – please contact your system manufacturer for further assistance.
If customers have experienced these instability symptoms on their 13th and/or 14th Gen desktop processors but were unsuccessful in prior RMAs we ask that they reach out to Intel Customer Support for further assistance and remediation.
We appreciate your patience with this process and will continue to share updates relating to the Intel Core 13th/14th Gen desktop processor instability issue.
(The above 13th/14th Gen Intel CPUs are covered by Intel’s warranty extension)
This month, Intel plans to release a microcode fix that should prevent more 13th/14th generation CPUs from becoming unstable. Unfortunately, this update will not make already unstable CPUs stable again. As such, users of affected/unstable CPUs should get their processors replaced under warranty. This will be through Intel customer services, your CPU supplier, or your system builder/integrator.
