Intel confirms Core Ultra 200 PLUS CPU price increases – cites “market dynamics”
Intel confirms Core Ultra 200S PLUS CPU price increases
An Intel spokesperson has issued an official statement regarding the recent price increases for the Core Ultra 200 PLUS series CPUs. The company has stated that “rising supply chain costs and strong demand” have forced Intel to raise its prices. The company also stated that these updates are in line with price increases for other Intel product families.
Intel’s Core Ultra 5 250K PLUS is now listed with an MSRP of $219.00-$229.00, with the Core Ultra 7 270K PLUS having a listed MSRP of $339.00-$349.99. These are price increases of $30 and $50, respectively. While these price increases undermine the strong value proposition of these CPUs, it is worth remembering that we are currently in the middle of a supply crunch across much of the technology sector.
So far, UK retail prices for Intel’s new CPUs remain steady. So far, Intel’s price changes have not affected the retail prices of Intel CPUs in the UK. That said, this price hike should hit consumers once retailers restock.
The recent pricing updates reflect current market dynamics, including rising supply chain costs and strong demand for our Intel Core Ultra 200S Plus processors. These updates are in line with recent price increases for other Intel product families based on similar factors.
There is high demand for CPUs, memory, GPUs (AI accelerators), and SSD storage coming from the AI sector. Rapid datacenter construction has caused the prices of many semiconductor input materials to skyrocket. This has led to price increases across all semiconductor products, even those not directly used in AI datacenters.
It’s worth noting that Intel’s Arrow Lake series CPUs use TSMC silicon. The compute tiles of Intel’s Core Ultra 200S series CPUs use TSMC’s 3nm technology. This is the same node family as AMD’s MI350 AI accelerators and Nvidia’s Rubin AI chips. With high demand for AI accelerators, it is possible that Intel’s higher prices are due to rising prices from TSMC.
