Intel Unveils First Teraflop Processor
Intel, at its annual IDF Conference, has announced that it has produced its first teraflop CPU. The prototype chip was unveiled in wafer form during the opening keynote. Intel CEO Paul Otellini claims that the technology will be available within the next 5 years.
Each of the 80 processors on the wafer contain a die with eighty cores – 6400 cores in total. Each CPU has more than one terabyte per second of throughput between the CPU cores and the on-die SRAM. The teraflop processors will be operating at 3.1Ghz
