More AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Details Leak – 2nd Gen V-Cache and More
Leakers tease AMD’s 2nd generation 3D V-Cache tech and Ryzen 9800X3D CPU
AMD has confirmed that it will launch its next-generation X3D CPUs on November 7th. However, official information about these new CPUs remains scarce. Thankfully, leakers have shed light on AMD’s next-generation X3D processors, confirming key details about AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D and its second-generation V-Cache technology.
With their Ryzen 7 9800X3D, AMD will use a new version of their 3D V-Cache technology. Both AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D and Ryzen 7 7800X3D use AMD’s first-generation 3D V-Cache technology, with both CPUs having a similar technological underpinning. With their new Zen 5-based X3D CPUs, AMD should be able to deliver some key technological improvements with their new 3D V-Cache technology. Regardless, the core purpose of AMD’s V-Cache tech is the same as before, add more L3 cache to their Ryzen CPUs.
They call this 2nd Generation 3D V-Cache Technology.
Which means it will be different from the 1st gen on Zen 3 and 4🤔— Hoang Anh Phu (@AnhPhuH) October 21, 2024
Below are the rumoured specifications of AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D. We have also added specifications for AMD’s Ryzen 7 9700X and their prior X3D CPUs for comparison. Note that the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D features higher base and boost clock speeds than the 7800X3D it replaces. Clock speed gains and Zen 5 architectural enhancements should allow it to perform better than its predecessor. AMD’s next-gen 3D V-Cache may also play a role here.
| Ryzen 7 5800X3D | Ryzen 7 7800X3D | Ryzen 7 9700X | Ryzen 7 9800X3D (Rumoured Specs) |
|
| CPU Architecture | Zen 3 | Zen 4 | Zen 5 | Zen 5 |
| CPU Cores/Threads | 8/16 | 8/16 | 8/16 | 8/16 |
| Socket/DRAM | AM4/DDR4 | AM5/DDR5 | AM5/DDR5 | AM5/DDR5 |
| Base Clock Speed | 3.4 GHz | 4.2 GHz | 3.8 GHz | 4.7 GHz |
| Boost Clock Speed | 4.5 GHz | 5 GHz | 5.5 GHz | 5.2 GHz |
| L3 Cache | 96MB | 96MB | 32MB | 96MB |
| TDP | 105W | 120W | 65W | 120W |
(Hoang Anh Phu claiming AMD’s Ryzen 9800X3D has a max boost clock of 5.2 GHz)
Currently, it is unknown how AMD’s next-gen V-Cache technology will impact the performance of AMD’s next-generation latest X3D CPUs. Will it enable enhanced cache latencies or bandwidth? Will it use multiple cache layers? Perhaps it’s cheaper to produce? We will find out more when AMD officially reveals their new X3D CPUs.
