Thermal Grizzly releases delidded Intel Core Ultra 7 270K PLUS CPUs

PC builders can now buy delidded Intel Core Ultra 7 270K PLUS CPUs

Thermal Grizzly has announced that it is now selling delidded Intel Core Ultra 270K PLUS CPUs, offering PC builders superior thermal performance with direct-die cooling.

Intel’s Core Ultra 7 270K PLUS delivers excellent value (see our review here). It delivers Intel fans a greatly improved price-to-performance ratio and greatly improved gaming performance. Simply put, it is one of the best desktop CPUs that Intel has released in years. By delidding this CPU, Thermal Grizzly gives users the benefits of direct-die cooling. That means lower thermals and the potential for higher overclocks.

With Thermal Grizzly doing the delidding for you, buyers will not need to take on the challenging (and risky) process of CPU delidding. Thermal Grizzly delids, cleans, and then lightly sands their CPUs. This gives users a clean, flat surface for cooler mounts and stronger support for liquid metal thermal interface materials. Thermal Grizzly also provides users with a warranty, as delidding voids Intel’s CPU warranty.

The Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus belongs to the Arrow Lake Refresh for Intel socket LGA1851 and delivers solid performance. With overclocking, the 270K Plus even surpasses the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, the former Arrow Lake flagship. And it does so with a significantly better price-performance ratio. The best everyday temperatures for both processors are achieved with a direct-die water block in combination with liquid metal as the thermal interface material (TIM) and a custom water-cooling loop with as much radiator surface area as possible.

With these delidded CPUs, Thermal Grizzly supplies a USB with test documentation and screenshots for your CPU. They also provide you with your CPU’s original IHS. Note that this IHS cannot be reused on these delidded CPUs, as there is now a gap between the top of Intel’s IHS and the top of your delidded CPUs. This means that Intel’s original IHS is only for display purposes.

Thermal performance

Thermal Grizzly’s testing has confirmed that a delidded Intel Core Ultra 7 270K PLUS CPU can run up to 22 degrees cooler when using liquid metal and custom liquid cooling. These are significant benefits, especially for overclockers.

Thermal Grizzly’s delidded Intel Core Ultra 270K PLUS CPUs cost €525.33, which is significantly more than a stock 270K PLUS. This higher price covers Thermal Grizzly’s delidding service and product warranty. Given the risks of delidding and the cost of CPU delidding equipment, this is a price that’s worth paying if you want a delidded CPU.

Delidded processors with a warranty provided by TG

The TG Delidded CPU is a processor that has been delidded by our trained staff and subsequently validated. During delidding, or “removing the lid,” the processor’s heatspreader is removed. While delidding and the use of corresponding direct-die coolers can significantly reduce temperatures under load, delidding results in the loss of the manufacturer’s warranty. In the case of the TG Delidded CPU, Thermal Grizzly offers a warranty in addition to the legally required seller warranty.

After delidding, the TG Delidded CPU is first cleaned. Then only the dies are lightly sanded to improve the adhesion of the liquid metal. Great care is taken not to damage any components. This is a purely surface-level treatment that further optimizes temperatures. After preparation, the CPU undergoes a functionality test. The temperature measured during this test is documented by screenshot and stored on a USB flash drive included with the CPU. Also included on the USB flash drive is a microscope image of the delidded processor.

Thermal Grizzly’s pre-delidded CPUs are now available through Thermal Grizzly’s website. They also sell delidded AMD Ryzen X3D CPUs, including delidded Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Ryzen 7 9850X3D, and Ryzen 9 9950X3D processors.
