AMD reportedly delays the launch of RDNA 4 over RDNA 3 oversupply concerns

According to Moore’s Law is Dead, citing several sources, AMD has delayed the launch of its upcoming RDNA 4 graphics cards until Q1 2025. This RDNA 4 delay comes thanks to an oversupply of AMD’s current-generation products. While lower-end RDNA 3 GPUs are selling “ok,” AMD’s higher-end models aren’t selling fast enough. Simply put, high-end PC gamers are opting for Nvidia’s RTX 40 SUPER series GPU models.

Based on existing rumours for AMD’s RDNA 4 CPU lineup, AMD’s next-generation GPUs are designed to offer PC builders more value for money. Essentially, AMD’s top RDNA 4 GPUs will deliver performance levels similar to those of their high-end RDNA 3 GPUs but with better ray tracing and lower pricing. Simply put, AMD wants to sell their high-end RDNA 3 stock before launching RDNA 4.

AMD has confirmed that there will be no ultra-high-end RDNA 4 graphics cards. Nvidia’s RTX 5090 will not have an RDNA 4-based rival. AMD is aiming for mass market success, not the top of the GPU market. Whether or not this strategy will work remains to be seen.
