AMD Ryzen 8060S iGPU leaks with impressive specs

AMD is getting ready to transform integrated graphics with their Radeon 8060S GPU

Specifications for AMD’s upcoming “Enthusiast Gaming” Ryzen AI MAX series CPUs have leaked, processors that were previously known as “Strix Halo“. With this leak comes the reveal of the AMD Radeon “8060S”, an integrated graphics solution with 40 Compute Units (CUs).

With up to 16 Zen 5 cores and 40 RDNA 3.5 compute units, AMD’s Ryzen AI Max series CPUs should offer ample CPU and GPU performance for mobile users. For context, this CPU has more 2.5x as many GU compute units as AMD’s Zen 5/RDNA 3.5 Strix Point processors. Rumour has it that this chip’s GPU may be able to compete with Nvidia’s mobile RTX 4070.

AMD uses a single chip to deliver strong CPU performance alongside discrete-level GPU performance. AMD’s Ryzen AI Max series is ideal for gaming laptops and workstations. After all, it is easy for laptop makers to cool a single chip instead of two discrete products. In a sense, these new “Strix Halo” AMD chips are an answer to Apple’s M-series of Apple Silicon processors.

Alongside their 8060S iGPU variant, a 32 CU model called the 8050S also exists. This GPU has as many compute units as AMD’s desktop-grade Radeon RX 7600/7600 XT graphics cards. If AMD can deliver discrete-level GPU performance from these chips, their new Strix Halo-based products will be incredible for PC gamers.
