AMD confirms that new drivers for older Radeon GPUs are coming soon
Users of older Radeon GPUs should expect new drivers within the next few weeks
AMD has not released a new GPU driver for their Radeon RX 6000 series and older graphics cards since November, with their AMD Software 22.11.2 driver being the newest driver available for most of their graphics cards. Since then, AMD has only been releasing drivers for their Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs, leaving users of AMD’s older GPUs with disappointing levels of support.
Frank Azor, AMD’s Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions & Marketing, has commented on the situation and has confirmed that the company plans to release new drivers for their RX 6000 series and older graphics cards “within the next two weeks”, which means that users old AMD’s older GPUs will not have to wait for long to receive a new driver update.Â
AMD plans to return to their “unified driver strategy”, which means that their future Radeon drivers should not be exclusive to one specific product line. Currently, all post AMD Software 22.11.2 drivers only support AMD’s RX 7900 series GPUs, but that should change within the next few weeks.Â
Drivers are an incredibly important part of the modern GPU market, providing gamers with bug fixes, performance optimisations, and new feature updates to enhance their gaming experiences. While AMD’s driver support for their RX 6000 series and older GPUs has been disappointing over the past few months, the good news is that things should be returning to normal soon at Radeon.Â
