AMD to announce FreeSync 2 at CES 2017

When most people consider HDR gaming most people forget that displays need to take additional time to display wide colour range content, which isn’t a huge issue when viewing movies and non-interactive content, but can present huge problems when gaming.Â
The aim of FreeSync 2 is simple, to remove the display tone mapping latency from the HDR rendering loop, giving gamers a lower latency gaming experience.
Right now it is unknown how FreeSnc 2 works or how many displays will support it in 2017, though it is certainly an interesting development.Â
Â
With FreeSync 2 AMD will also make moving from standard desktop to HDR content easy, which means that HDR on PC will be controlled by PC drivers and not by Windows.Â
FreeSync 2 will allow PC gamers to easily view HDR content on PC, though right now it is unknown if FreeSync 2 will work with all HDR displays, or if FreeSync 2 will b a standard that display manufacturers will have to aim towards.Â
Â
With this information coming from leaked AMD slides and not AMD directly, we sadly cannot confirm exactly how AMD’s FreeSync 2 technology will function, though this is something that we will be finding out soon as CES starts later this week.Â
