AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XTX price drops below £800

AMD’s fastest GPU is now available for under £800 in the UK

AMD’s RDNA 3 flagship, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX, has now dropped to its lowest ever price in the UK. Now, the 24GB graphics card is available for under £800 in the UK thorough Ebuyer. This gives AMD’s top graphics card a similar price to lower-cost Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti models.

Specifically, it is Sapphire’s Radeon RX 7900 XTX Pulse model that has had its price drop below £800. This model features a custom triple fan heatsink design and a small factory overclock over AMD’s reference GPU specifications. Like all high-end RDNA 3 GPUs, this graphics card features AV1 Encoding support, and support for DisplayPort 2.1.

Typically, this graphics card from AMD is compared to Nvidia’s RTX 4080 graphics card in terms of rasterisation performance. This makes today’s pricing appear to be a great deal for PC gamers, though it is worth noting that AMD’s GPUs don’t compare as favourably when ray tracing is considered.

AMD is expected to launch next-generation RDNA 4 graphics cards later this year. With these products, AMD are reportedly abandoning the high-end GPU market for a generation. Even so, AMD’s RDNA 4 flagship will reportedly deliver RX 7900-series like performance at a lower price. Beyond that, RDNA 4’s “brand new” ray tracing cores should address a key weakness from RDNA 2 and RDNA 3.

In their Q1 2024 earning report, AMD has reported low “gaming revenue”. In part, low Radeon GPU sales contribute to this huge drop in revenue. With this in mind, it is likely that we will see more Radeon GPUs at lower prices in the near future.
