ASUS’ ROG XREAL R1 AR Glasses are now available to preorder

ASUS’ ROG XREAL R1 is now available to preorder for $849 in the US

It’s official, ASUS’ ROG XREAL R1 is now available to pre-order, with ASUS setting a $849 asking price for its AR Gaming Glasses in the US. For starters, pre-orders are available via Best Buy, but broader pre-order availability will start on May 17th through the XREAL store. In the UK, ROG’s XREAL R1 augmented reality glasses are available for pre-order at John Lewis for £749.00. They claim that pre-orders will be delivered “from June 1st”.

The ROG XREAL R1 is the gateway to a 171-inch virtual screen. It uses Micro OLED panels and supports 1080p at up to 240Hz. These glasses weigh just 91 grams and connect to devices using USB-C or through the ROG hub. The lightweight nature of these glasses makes them easy to wear, and their Bose audio ensures a strong listening experience.

Specifications

With a 57-degree FOV, these glasses are said to cover 95% of the “human focus area”. Since this isn’t a VR headset, this FOV is more than enough for gamers. After all, users only need to see the 171-inch virtual display, not anything around it.

With three tint levels, users can choose how visible they want the environment around them to be. They can make their surroundings pitch black for maximum immersion, or minimise the tink to retain awareness.

These AR glasses can connect directly with USB Type-C display output devices or connect to other devices using the ROG Control Dock. This allows ROG Ally users to connect to these AR glasses with “Zero Setup”. PC and console users will likely need to use ASUS’ ROG Dock to connect to the glasses via HDMI. This ROG Dock features two HDMI 2.0 ports and a single DisplayPort 1.4 port.

ASUS’ ROG XREAL R1 headset is available to pre-order now in the US for $849. They aren’t cheap, but they are far ahead of other AR glasses of this type, which typically support refresh rates of 120Hz. Strong PC, console, and ROG Ally support is also a major boon. After all, what’s the point of a big virtual screen if you can’t see anything on it?
