Faster with fewer watts – Nvidia RTX 5080 to beat the RTX 4090 by 10%

Nvidia’s RTX 5080 is reportedly 1.1x faster than the RTX 4090 at 400 watts

Videocardz has managed to get a hold of some exclusive RTX 50 series information from the leaker Kopite7kimi, allowing them to reveal the performance target of Nvidia’s RTX 5080 GPU. This GPU is alleged to be 10% faster than Nvidia’s RTX 4090 while consuming 400 watts of power. This makes Nvidia’s new RTX XX80 series GPU both faster and more efficient than Nvidia’s current gaming flagship.

An important detail not mentioned earlier, but confirmed to Videocardz by Kopite7kimi, is that the RTX 5080 is projected to show a 1.1x increase in performance over the RTX 4090. The leaker did not specify whether this improvement pertains to overall, raster, or ray tracing performance.

Kopite7kimi has recently stated that Nvidia’s RTX 5090 is a 600W gaming beast. This suggests that Nvidia’s next-generation gaming flagship will be much faster than their RTX 4090. After all, if Nvidia can best their RTX 4090 with 400 watts of power, what can they achieve with 600 watts?

If Nvidia can beat their RTX 4090 by 10% with 400 watts of power, Nvidia’s RTX 5090 could deliver up to 65% more performance with 600 watts of power. This assumes that Nvidia’s RTX 50 series power/performance scaling is relatively stable. That said, recent rumours have suggested that Nvidia’s RTX 5090 is 48% faster than its predecessor.
