Intel confirms its commitment to GPUs and Gamers at CES 2025

Intel’s GPU ambitions won’t end with ARC Battlemage

During their CES 2025 keynote, Intel interim co-CEO Michelle Johnston Holthaus reconfirmed that the company is committed to gamers, GPUs, and discrete graphics. This puts to bed rumours that the company planned to abandon their discrete GPU product line after the release of ARC Battlemage.

We are very committed to the discrete graphics market and plan future investments.

– Intel interim co-CEO Michelle Johnston Holthaus

This commitment means we can expect Intel to continue producing new ARC series discrete GPUs and improving its ARC graphics drivers and software. Recently, Intel released XeSS 2 technology, an update to its game upscaling technology that adds Frame Generation and low latency technology to its GPU software suite. This aligns Intel XeSS with AMD’s FSR and Nvidia’s DLSS technologies, at least in terms of their core feature sets.

Intel’s commitment to discrete GPUs could mean that Intel has more ARC Battlemage graphics cards on the horizon. Furthermore, it means that their next-generation ARC Celestial GPUs will be released. This is great news for gamers, as it means that Intel will continue to be a competitor in the discrete GPU market.

Why are discrete GPUs so important to Intel?

Simply put, Intel can’t abandon graphics entirely. Even without discrete graphics, Intel needs mobile graphics solutions for its processor. Furthermore, many AI workloads rely on GPU performance, and AI is critical to Intel’s future roadmap. Intel needs to continue investing in GPU architectures for its integrated graphics solutions. Those GPUs need strong drivers and a solid graphics architecture.

Intel needs to invest in GPUs regardless of its position in the discrete GPU market. Intel’s efforts in building discrete GPUs have resulted in the creation of Intel’s best integrated GPUs to date. If Intel doesn’t continue these efforts, its integrated GPU offerings will fall behind its competitors, placing them at a disadvantage. Intel can’t be a GPU-less company, and investment in discrete GPUs will help to ensure that their lower-end graphics solutions continue to improve.
