A man has spent 48 hours in the HTC Vive without nausea, headaches or burning eyes, even going so far as to sleep inside the VR world.Â
Thorsten Wiedemann, the man who spent 2 days inside VR as part of his art project Disconnect, an event that took place earlier this month, reported that he “had no physical problems, no burning eyes, killing headaches or nausea”, though he did have to take a short break after the 25th hour, due to the emotional strains of the VR/real word disconnect over such a long period of time.Â
Over the 48 hours while he was awake and not eating he played a selection of VR demos and games, providing him an almost “lucid trip” like experience with even a short 2.5 hour nap while wearing the headset while it projected an image of a cozy cave with a view of the stars. Â
VR sickness have been a large concern with VR ever since it’s inception, with Nintendo’s Virtualboy and early prototypes of the Oculus Rift giving users headaches, Nausea and discomfort during even short times of use, making many potential VR users fearing that they will not be able to use their expensive VR headsets for long gaming sessions or simply unable to use it at all.
Â
As HTC and Oculus has released newer and newer prototypes reports of Nausea and discomfort has drastically reduced, though at this time I would recommend that you take a “try before you buy” approach to VR technology, especially given how expensive the technology is.Â
