MSI reveals its Optix MAG342CQR 1000R Curved Gaming Display – CES 2020
MSI reveals its Optix MAG342CQR 1000R Curved Gaming Display – CES 2020
While MSI did call this screen a “world’s first” in its press release, it must be noted that Samsung has also created a range of 1000R monitors with its Odyssey G9/G7 series. However, MSI new MAG342CQR is still the “worldâs first Ultrawide 21:9 1000R WQHD Gaming Monitor”.Â
What’s so special about 1000R curved displays? Research suggests that it is the optimal level of display curvature for productivity, closely matching the peripheral vision of humans at standard desk-to-face distances. With a 1000R curve, this monitor is designed to be around 1000mm away from the user’s face, which is ideal for most desk or office setups, especially for monitors this wide. This radius allows all of the screen to be a similar distance from the user’s eyes, a factor which helps reduce eye strain.Â
As a 21:9 3440×1440 (WQHD) monitor, this screen is ideal for FPS games and motorsport games, both of which benefit from a wider field of view. This screen also supports a high 144Hz refresh rate and VESA Adaptive Sync. At this time it is unknown if this screen is certified as G-Sync Compatible. Â
MSI lists this screen as having support for 1.07 billion colours (10-bit) and covers the entire sRGB colour spectrum. At their CES showroom, MSI listed this screen has having a 1ms response time and a VA panel. Â

At this time, MSI has not revealed the pricing or release date of their Optix MAG342CQR 1000R Curved Gaming monitor. Hopefully we will hear more as CES progresses.Â
