Nvidia ARM-based N1/N1X Laptops could launch this year with Alienware

Alienware plans to launch Nvidia/ARM based laptops in later 2025/early 2026

According to a report from Taiwan’s United Daily News, Nvidia’s first ARM-based laptops could launch later this year or early next year, thanks to a partnership with Alienware.

Nvidia is reportedly working with MediaTek to create ARM-based gaming CPUs for Windows laptops. Nvidia’s ARM-based gaming APUs are reportedly called N1, and N1X. Nvidia aims to supplant Qualcomm as Microsoft’s primary partner for Windows on ARM. To achieve this, Nvidia plans to leverage its advanced AI and gaming hardware.

Last year, when asked about Nvidia’s place in the AI PC market, Michael Dell, the CEO of Dell said to “come back next year.” Note that Dell owns the Alienware PC brand. Following Dell, Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, said, “Exactly.”

With its ARM-based APUs, Nvidia reportedly aims to deliver GPU performance levels comparable to those of a laptop RTX 4070 graphics card. Thanks to Nvidia’s APU design, laptop makers can deliver simplified designs. After all, this system’s CPU and GPU components are contained on the same chip. Cooling one component is a lot easier than cooling two separate processors.

If today’s report is true, Alienware will be one of the first Nvidia partners to create an ARM-based RTX gaming laptop.

If Nvidia enters the PC market, it has the potential to end the duopoly of AMD and Intel. While Qualcomm do make PC SoCs, their market share remains small. Beyond that, their PCs still have problems when it comes to software compatibility, especially when it comes to gaming. Nvidia could bypass these issues with stronger GPU drivers. This could make Nvidia’s new products ideal for ARM-based PC gaming.
