Nvidia insider speaks out about RTX 50 series launch – Not even employees can get GPUs

Even Nvidia employees aren’t able to get RTX 50 series GPUs

Even Nvidia employees can’t get an RTX 50 series graphics card. That’s how poor day-1 stock for Nvidia’s RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 were at launch. According to a report from Moore’s Law is Dead, even Nvidia insiders are furious at how the RTX 50-series launch was handled. Many Nvidia employees are outraged at how the launch was handled, and even the company’s internal storefront could not supply employees with GPUs.

According to the report, this is the first time Nvidia employees are unable to purchase GPUs internally. That’s not a good look for Nvidia, as their staff must include some of the most hardcore GPU enthusiasts on the planet. Internal availability for GPUs will not start until “widespread stabilization” is achieved.

Not sure how widespread the dissatisfaction is, but I can at least tell you anecdotally that I [Nvidia Engineer], and every coworker I’ve spoken with on the matter is outraged with how this launch has been handled.

The employee storefront states that “due to shortages” no RTX 50 Series supply will be available until “widespread stabilization”. This hasn’t happened before, everyone is confused, and there’s a lot of people asking questions even inside Nvidia as to why we’re screwing over gaming so bad this time around…

Overclockers UK, the UK PC components retailer, has stated that it may take 16 weeks to deliver all RTX 5090 pre-orders. Demand for Nvidia’s RTX 50 series CPUs has vastly outstretched supply. Currently, most retailers have stopped taking preorders; that’s how much demand there is. With this in mind, it is unsurprising that Nvidia doesn’t have stock for its internal storefront.

Today, most gamers wonder why Nvidia launched their RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 so early. Were Nvidia trying to avoid Trump-imposed tariffs in the US? Why didn’t Nvidia wait until more stock was available? Even Nvidia employees are reportedly asking these questions. While selling out their product and high pre-order numbers is a good thing for Nvidia, this launch has damaged the company’s reputation. Regardless, Nvidia remains the king of the GPU market, and nobody is set to dethrone it anytime soon.
