Nvidia reportedly axes its RTX 5090 to push RTX PRO
Is the RTX 5090 dead? Nvidia reportedly allocates all GB202 silicon to RTX Pro GPUs
Let’s face it, the RTX 5090 isn’t a gaming GPU anymore. Its UK pricing is now well over 100% higher than Nvidia’s MSRP. To make matters worse, we’ve even seen damaged RTX 5090 GPUs sell for over £4,000. Now, Nvidia has reportedly axed the RTX 5090 and is allocating all future GB202 chips to RTX Pro series GPUs.
If this change is true, Nvidia has effectively discontinued its RTX 5090 GPU. This change would prevent Nvidia’s partners from producing new RTX 5090 GPUs once existing chip supplies are exhausted. This could further increase the price of Nvidia’s RTX 5090 GPU, a graphics card that is already absurdly expensive.
Once RTX 5090 supplies dry up, Nvidia’s new gaming flagship will be its RTX 5080. Reports suggest Nvidia plans to release a 24GB RTX 5080 model (RTX 5080 SUPER?), though this hasn’t been confirmed. This will give Nvidia a new GeForce flagship.

While today’s rumours suggest Nvidia has discontinued its RTX 5090, gamers haven’t been able to access the GPU at a reasonable price for months. At its current price, the GPU’s performance isn’t a worthwhile upgrade over Nvidia’s RTX 5080. For gaming, Nvidia’s RTX 5090 doesn’t represent good value. Calling it bad value is an understatement. For the same money, you could buy three RTX 5080 GPUs and have money to spare. Even if Nvidia hasn’t discontinued the RTX 5090, it is already effectively dead for all but the richest gamers.
