Nvidia reportedly preps RTX 5060 8GB and 12GB models
Nvidia may have two RTX 5060 models in the works, and one of them is horrendous
According to a report from Moore’s Law is Dead, Nvidia is preparing to launch two RTX 5060 models in the second half of 2025. While both models will have RTX 5060 branding, these graphics cards will differ greatly. One RTX 5060 model will have 12GB of VRAM, while the other will have just 8GB and fewer CUDA cores.
Essentially, Nvidia is repeating the mistake they made with their GeForce GTX 1060. Nvidia released one GTX 1060 model with 6GB of VRAM and later released another model with 3GB of VRAM and fewer CUDA cores. After the release of the 3GB model, Nvidia received a backlash from gamers over releasing two GPUs with the same name and very different specifications. Furthermore, the 3GB model didn’t have enough memory to run some PC games well at launch.
Nvidia’s 8GB RTX 5060 will be inferior to its 12GB counterpart in all aspects. It will have less memory, which can cause VRAM-related issues when running newer games. Additionally, thanks to its lower number of CUDA cores, it will have less raw performance. In reality, this 8GB GPU should be called the RTX 5050 Ti, not an RTX 5060.
(Quote from Moore’s Law is Dead Source)
Nvidia’s 12GB RTX 5060 is expected to deliver performance levels between an RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4070. The RTX 5060 8GB will deliver less performance. We expect both GPUs to use a 128-bit memory bus, with the 12GB model using larger 3GB GDDR7 memory chips while the 8GB model uses 2GB GDDR7 chips.
