CXMT is now shipping LPDDR6 memory for Xiaomi’s 18 Fold Smartphone
CXMT has become the first DRAM producer to ship LPDDR6 memory to a customer
ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), China’s top DRAM producer, has become the first major DRAM producer to mass-produce LPDDR6 memory and ship it to a customer. Who’s the customer? Xiaomi plans to use LPDDR6 memory in its upcoming 18 Fold smartphone, which is due to launch next month.
With this move, CXMT has pushed ahead of Samsung and SK Hynix in the world of cutting-edge LPDDR memory. Compared with LPDDR5 and LPDDR5X, LPDDR6 memory offers users more bandwidth, increased efficiency, and improved power management. With LPDDR6, memory speeds of 10,667 Gbps and 14.4 Gbps are expected, surpassing prior LPDDR memory standards.
Currently, it is unknown how fast the LPDDR6 memory in Xiaomi’s new smartphone will be, or how much memory the new device will have. Note that CXMT only started mass producing LPDDR5X memory last year, far behind other major DRAM makers.

With its LPDDR6 memory, CXMT has made a statement. They are no longer behind established leading-edge DRAM providers like Micron, SK Hynix, and Samsung. In fact, CXMT is eyeing rapid expansion after its successful IPO, hoping to capitalise on today’s DRAM demand to grow its market share.
LPDDR6 memory will prove to be useful for future mobile devices, laptops, and servers. While CXMT may be first, it shouldn’t take long for other DRAM makers to create and ship their own LPDDR6 memory. SK Hynix has already confirmed that it plans to start LPDDR6 mass production this year.
