China’s CXMT enters the DDR5/LPDDR5X memory market with high-speed modules

CXMT showcases DDR5-8000 and LPDDR5X-10667 memory

At the China Semiconductor Expo, ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) has showcased its first DDR5 and LPDDR5X memory modules. At the event, CXMT highlighted impressive memory speeds and capacities, with the new modules representing a major leap in China’s domestic DRAM manufacturing capabilities.

With DDR5 memory speeds of up to 8000 MT/s and 16Gb and 24Gb chip capacities, CXMT’s promising speeds are well above what’s considered “standard” for DDR5. Today, DDR5-6000 and DDR5-6400 speeds are fairly common. That said, it remains to be seen how commonplace CXMT’s “maximum” speed modules will be.

CXMT plans to release RDIMM, MRDIMM, and TFF MRDIMM modules for datacenters alongside UDIMM and SODIMM modules for consumer PCs. In other words, CXMT aims to build market share in both the consumer and enterprise DRAM markets.

CXMT also showcased 12Gb and 24Gb LPDDR5X memory chips, promising a maximum speed of 10,667 MT/s. If these speeds are accurate, CXMT aims to deliver the same speeds as early LPDDR6 modules with LPDDR5X memory.

China is catching up to the world’s leading DRAM producers

With their announcements at the 2025 China Semiconductor Expo, CMXT is setting itself up as a rival to existing memory giants like Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron. CXMT has been sampling its new LPDDR5X and DDR5 modules since October, and plans to scale up its production to meet growing demand.

Through CMXT, China wants to lower its reliance on foreign DRAM manufacturers. Given today’s shortages of DRAM, CXMT has a huge opportunity to gain market share, assuming that its DRAM is good enough for widespread usage. If CMXT can prove itself, we can expect to see its memory in a lot of future products. However, CXMT’s memory will likely be used primarily in Chinese products, at least initially. Expect to see CMXT’s memory chips in high-end Chinese products soon.
