PlayStation VR2 sales skyrocket following official Sony price cuts
PlayStation VR2 sales increase by 2350% following Sony price cuts
Sony has recently dropped the price of their PlayStation VR2 headset for PlayStation 5. As a result of this, the headset’s sales have reportedly increased by 2,350% on July 29th, at least according to The Shortcut. In fact, that day’s sales reportedly saw more PlayStation VR2 sales than the rest of 2024.
In the UK, Sony’s PlayStation VR2 headset is available for as little as £329.99. That’s a far cry from the headset’s original UK MSRP of £529.99. If nothing else, PSVR2’s sales spike proved that the headset always had a pricing problem. There is interest in VR gaming, but high headset pricing is a major turn-off for would-be VR adopters. This is especially true for PlayStation VR2, with the headset launching at a price tag that’s higher than the PlayStation 5 console itself.
Is PC support also boosting PlayStation VR2 sales?
On August 7th, PlayStation VR2 will officially gain support for PC. This will come through PlayStation VR2’s new PC app and PC adapter. Now that the headset is available for a reduced price, some PC gamers may have purchased PSVR headsets ahead of next month’s PC update. Not only will the headset support VR titles on PlayStation 5, it will also support the huge number of PC-exclusive VR titles. This includes games like Valve’s Half-Life: Alyx.
