PowerColor’s RX 5500 XT 4GB is the Reference Model that AMD Didn’t Release

Most new graphics cards feature a “reference” design, setting the baseline standard when it comes to cooling, power circuitry and acoustics. To put things simply, this is the design that will be found in most OEM systems, which means that reference GPU models ready for practically any scenario, where restricted airflow could become a problem.

With their Radeon RX 5500 XT, AMD didn’t release reference model RX 5500 XT graphics cards, leaving the consumer markets to AIB customers like Sapphire, ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI and PowerColor to fill in the gap with custom-designed GPU models. Even so, that doesn’t stop AIB customers from creating their own “reference” RX 5500 XT GPUs. 

PowerColor’s baseline RX 5500 XT is the reference model RX 5500 XT that AMD didn’t release. While it isn’t a perfect match for AMD’s RX 5500 XT slides, it does offer the same look and feel as many of AMD’s older reference model graphics cards alongside a clean and simplistic design aesthetic. While this GPU may not be to everyone’s taste, it is certainly a good option for gamers given its £159.95 UK price tag.
