Leaked Nvidia roadmap suggests 2025 release for their GeForce RTX 50 series

Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 50 series appears to be launching later than expected

Thanks to HardwareLuxx, we have gotten a look at an Nvidia roadmap that showcases Nvidia’s plans for the next few years, showcasing the planned release timeframe of their next-generation “Ada Lovelace Next” graphics cards and their planned CPU, AI GPU, and DPU products. 

In 2024, Nvidia plans to release their “Hopper Next” graphics card, a GPU that is reportedly known as “Blackwell” internally. This GPU will succeed Nvidia’s Hopper graphics chip, which is a chip that is focused on AI and computational workloads. This is not a gaming product. 

With their next-generation “Ada Lovelace Next” graphics product, what will become Nvidia’s RTX 50 series, Nvidia appears to be targeting an early 2025 release timeframe, which is later that what many analysts expected. Typically, Nvidia releases a new graphics architecture every two years, and with Lovelace launching in 2022, it seemed likely that Nvidia’s next-generation graphics architecture would launch in mid-late 2024.

Thanks to this roadmap, we now know that Nvidia does not have plans to release next-generation RTX graphics products in late 2023 or 2024. If Nvidia releases any new products, they will be based on the company’s existing Ada Lovelace graphics architecture.

With Nvidia taking longer than expected to launch their next-generation “Lovelace Next” graphics architecture, Nvidia may have given their competitors an opportunity to launch next-generation graphics products before them, allowing them to take a leadership position within the GPU market. 

If AMD are able to release next-generation RDNA 4 graphics products in 2024, AMD have the potential to grab a lot of high-end market share from Nvidia, as Nvidia will not have a competing product. This assumes that AMD will be able to deliver significant performance gains with their next-generation graphics cards, allowing AMD to overtake Nvidia’s RTX 40 series in key workloads.

In 2025, Nvidia also plans to release their “Grace Next” processors, ARM-based CPUs that will help Nvidia grab more of the HPC and AI supercomputer markets.
