Nintendo Switch 2 design leaks alongside specifications

Alleged Switch 2 handheld design leaks – A larger, more capable Nintendo handheld

Nintendo has already confirmed they are making a “Switch 2” console, which will be announced during this fiscal year. While Nintendo has not officially revealed this system or its specifications, leaks have made many aspects of the system widely known. Now, alleged images of the console’s design have been leaked, giving gamers a look at Nintendo’s next-generation handheld.

The Switch 2 will be powered by a new ARM-based processor made by Nvidia, which will utilize a new graphics chip based on the company’s Ampere GPU architecture. The system will also use 12GB of DDR5-7500 memory and 256GB of integrated UFS 3.1 storage.

Overall, Nintendo’s new handheld will be larger than its predecessor. The system will feature an 8-inch screen, giving the handheld a larger footprint than the original. It will also feature a kickstand design similar to the Switch OLED. This kickstand extends across the entire rear of the handheld.

With its larger footprint, the Switch 2 may feature a larger battery and cooling solution than its predecessor. This may give the device a longer battery life or allow the device to consume more power and deliver more computational power without reducing the device’s battery life.

Below, we can see the design of Nintendo’s next-generation joy-con controllers. They appear similar to their last-generation counterparts, though we can see an extra button on the right joy-con. Currently, it is unknown if the Switch 2 will support the original Switch’s Joy-Con controllers.

Expect big things from Switch 2

Overall, Nintendo’s next-generation console should deliver a huge boost in performance compared to its predecessor. It features a 3x increase in DRAM capacity and a much more capable SOC. Its use of modern Nvidia graphics tech should also allow the handheld to utilise AI features. This may include Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling technology. Beyond that, it’s worth noting that the system will have more memory than Microsoft’s Xbox Series S (albeit with less overall bandwidth).

Nintendo’s next-generation Switch handheld will deliver a huge leap in handheld gaming performance. That said, it remains to be seen how the system will compare to systems like Valve’s Steam Deck and other PC gaming handhelds. Regardless, it will beat the original Switch with ease, making it a worthy upgrade for Nintendo fans.
