Nvidia finishes its $700 million acquisition of run:ai

Nvidia has completed its acquisition of run:ai

Nvidia has confirmed today that they have completed their acquisition of run:ai, an Israeli firm specialising in infrastructure optimisation for AI. The AI giant paid $700 million to acquire the company and successfully got past the antitrust scrutiny of the EU and the US government. Nvidia first announced its plan to acquire the company in April 2024.

In their post announcing their integration into Nvidia, run:ai has confirmed that they will be open-sourcing their software, allowing it to be used by the broader AI ecosystem. Currently, run:ai’s software only runs on Nvidia GPUs. It is unknown if this open-sourcing is a requirement for Nvidia’s governmental approval for this acquisition.

In addition, we plan to open source the Run:ai software to help the community build better AI, faster. While Run:ai currently supports only NVIDIA GPUs, open sourcing the software will enable it to extend its availability to the entire AI ecosystem.

This acquisition will further boost Nvidia’s AI expertise. Currently, Nvidia is the largest company in the AI space. This acquisition will help Nvidia’s customers get the most out of their AI infrastructure. Furthermore, it will help Nvidia sell more of its products to customers as complete AI infrastructure solutions.

In August, AMD acquired Silo AI for $665 million. Silo AI specialises in building end-to-end AI solutions for customers. This makes AMD’s acquisition of Silo AI similar to Nvidia’s acquisition of run:ai. Both companies specialise in AI infrastructure. Additionally, both companies were acquired for similar amounts.
