Rockstar Games unveils Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, physical media for a digital-only game

Rockstar Games has unveiled its first physical media release for Grand Theft Auto VI, and it’s not what gamers wanted. Grand Theft Auto VI remains a physical-only game, with boxed copies containing only a digital game code. So what is this physical media release? Presenting Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album.

Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album will be available on November 19th on CD or vinyl. The album will contain 34 original tracks. These tracks “capture the electric energy of Vice City and Leonida” and come from “a genre-defying artist roster”. Six singles are available to listen to today and can be streamed on Spotify.

The CD version of Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album will cost £10.99, while the Vinyl version will cost £44.99 or £108.99 depending on whether you get the Limited Edition Vinyl or the standard version. All physical versions of the album will become available on November 19th, the same day as the game.

Rockstar Games seems to be a master of irony. They refuse to release a physical disc-based version of GTA 6, but will release their game’s music album both physically and digitally. They will even release the album on vinyl, an ancient medium, and create a “Limited Edition” version for those who want to spend even more money.

As nice as it will be for GTA fans to have physical access to the game’s music, it is a shame that the same doesn’t apply to the game itself. I’d imagine the people who’d want a physical CD for GTA VI: The Album would also want a physical disc for the game itself.
