Steam Deck “out of stock” as production hit by “shortages” – Valve confirms

Valve’s Steam Deck has been impacted by component shortages, making the device “out of stock” in some regions

Valve has issued a warning on Steam that its Steam Deck has been impacted by “shortages”. This has caused the device to become “out-of-stock” in some regions. Valve has stated that its Steam Deck will now be “intermittently” out of stock, blaming component shortages.

Specifically, shortages of memory and storage are preventing Valve from manufacturing additional handheld units. There are also reports that these shortages have caused delays for Valve’s planned Steam Machine and Steam Frame product launches.

Note that Valve has already confirmed that the Steam Deck LCD is now out of production. Once this model has sold out, it will no longer be available to purchase.

Note: Steam Deck OLED may be out-of-stock intermittently in some regions due to memory and storage shortages. Steam Deck LCD 256GB is no longer in production, and once sold out will no longer be available.

Valve is facing the same supply issues as most of the consumer tech industry. Rampant demand for AI infrastructure has led to critical shortages of DRAM and NAND memory. This has caused huge price increases for both memory types and has forced device makers to increase their system pricing.

Phison’s CEO recently stated that he expects many “systems vendors to go bankrupt or exit product lines” in the near term. While we do not expect Valve to go bankrupt, we do not expect it to replace its 256 GB Steam Deck LCD model with a new OLED variant when it goes out of stock. This will increase Valve’s baseline pricing for its Steam Deck handheld.
