Trump calls for Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan to “Resign Immediately”

President Trump called Intel’s CEO “highly conflicted” and demanded that he “resign immediately”

US President Donald Trump has called for the CEO of Intel, Lip-Bu Tan, to “resign immediately” as part of a recently released social media post. This post is due to concerns about the CEO’s ties to China. Lip-Bu Tan has long-running financial ties to Chinese tech companies, which presents major issues given Intel’s position as the US’ leading semiconductor company.

In a recent letter to Frank Yeary, the head of Intel’s board of directors, US Senator Tom Cotton has reportedly stated that Lip-Bu Tan, through his venture capital firm, holds stakes in more than 600 Chinese companies. The senator wants proof that Tan has divested from any outfit on the US Treasury’s blacklist. He also warned that “intel is required to be a responsible steward of American taxpayer dollars and to comply with applicable security regulations.” Furthermore, he said that “Mr. Tan’s associations raise questions about Intel’s ability to fulfil these obligations.”

Lip-Bu Tan was made CEO in March 2025, succeeding Pat Gelsinger. Since then, Intel has undergone massive layoffs and implemented significant cutbacks. Now, Intel may need to find a new CEO.

So far, Intel has not issued any statements in response to President Trump’s message. Intel’s share price has dipped following Trump’s post.

Intel is now facing a new controversy, and this one could force the company to find a new CEO. This is bad news for Intel, as its perceived instability will not help the brand’s reputation. It may also make it harder for Intel to find customers for its next-generation foundry nodes.
