Valve Trademarks “Steam Frame” Computer/Console Hardware
Is Valve working on a Steam-powered console?
Valve has registered two trademarks for “Steam Frame”, one which covers the realm of “Computer Hardware“, and another that covers the realm of “Computer Games Consoles“. These trademarks hit at Valve’s plan to release new hardware devices, complementing its existing Steam Deck PC handheld.
What’s worth noting here is that Valve’s trademarks are broad. While they cover “Computer Hardware” and “Computer Game Consoles”, they also cover video game accessories and computer peripherals. This means that Valve’s Steam Frame may not be a Steam-powered console.
Valve has not commented on these trademarks. However, there is speculation that Valve may be working on a follow-up for its Valve Index VR headset. There are rumours that a new Valve VR headset codenamed “Deckard” is in the works. There are also rumours that Valve has a second-generation Steam Controller in the works.
Valve trademarks STEAM FRAME – intended to cover the categories of computer game consoles for recreational game playing; video game consoles; video game accessories, namely, controllers for video games.

The popularity of Valve’s Steam Deck could lead Valve to develop a more powerful desktop/console-like device. This would allow Valve to deliver a console-like PC gaming experience using SteamOS. That said, this device would not feature many real advantages over traditional desktop PCs. Valve’s Steam Deck is highly portable and launched with a much better UI than any Windows-powered PC handheld available at the time. Would a Valve console be as appealing as Valve’s Steam Deck?
Whether it’s a console, accessory, or VR headset, it is clear that Valve is cooking something new. Hopefully Valve will reveal something soon.
