Cooler Master can protect your GPU with its standalone “GPU Shield” add-on
Cooler Master’s standalone “GPU Shield” add-on works with any 12V-2×6 PSU
Cooler Master has created a new “GPU Shield” add-on to protect 12V-2×6/12VHPWR graphics cards from cable overheating/melting. Just like the GPU Shield tech inside their new MWE Gold V4 PSUs, can detect current imbalances across 12V-2×6 cables and warn users with a built-in buzzer.
This warning prompts users to stop what they are doing and shut down their systems. After that, users can ensure their 12V-2×6 cables are properly seated (or replace them if necessary). This add-on is an in-line connector that sits between your PSU and GPU and is compatible with all 12V-2×6/12VHPWR PSUs.
Sadly, Cooler Master has not announced pricing for this new add-on. The connector will be available in two forms, one with a buzzer and one with a buzzer and integrated RGB lighting. Honestly, while I like the idea of this device, I would have preferred a slightly longer 12V-2×6 cable at the end. This device will be hard to hide (or optimally position) inside your PC without extra cable length.
The main perk of this add-on is that it adds 12V-2×6 protection without requiring an expensive PSU replacement. Cooler Master expects this PSU add-on to become available at retailers soon.
