Cooler Master shows off its MWE Gold V4 PSUs with “GPU Shield” tech
Cooler Master has added “GPU Shield” tech to its newest PSU
Cooler Master has unveiled its new MWE Gold V4 series of power supplies, offering PC builders new “GPU Shield” technology to protect users from unsafe 12V-2×6 power delivery. This patent-pending technology can prevent GPUs with 12V-2×6 power connectors from failing due to imbalanced power delivery, which causes 12V-2×6 cable/connector melting incidents.
GPU Shield uses per-pin sensing to monitor current in real-time. If a pin is detected drawing more than 9A of current, the PSU will reduce its power delivery to prevent cable melting/failure. During this time, a red light will be illuminated beside this PSU’s internal modular connectors. If your PC case has a PSU shroud (which most of them do), you will not be able to see this light. If the power remains in an anomalous state for more than three minutes, the system will power off.
When your GPU becomes power-limited, users should notice a loss in system performance. If not, and the anomalous behaviour persists, the system will shut down after three minutes. When this happens, users should reseat their 12V-2×6 cable or replace it if necessary.
Cooler Master’s new MWE Gold V2 PSUs will be available with 750W-1000W power capacities. These PSUs will be available in black and white, with both models shipping with modular cables.
The MWE Gold V4 will be the first of many Cooler Master PSUs to support GPU Shield technology. We expect this tech to ship with most of Cooler Master’s high-end PSU models moving forward.
