AMD reveals Radeon Image Sharpening 2 for RDNA 4 graphics cards
Radeon Image Sharpening 2 (RIS 2) is coming, and it only works on RDNA 4 GPUs
Alongside their new Radeon RX 9070 series graphics cards, AMD has revealed Radeon Image Sharpening 2 (RIS 2), a new feature that will arrive with AMD Software 25.3.1.
Radeon Image Sharpening 2 is an AI image sharpening tool that will only be available on AMD’s newest graphics cards. This feature will be supported first on AMD’s RX 9070 series GPUs. The feature is a desktop-wide solution that provides “stronger, more responsive sharpening” than AMD’s RIS 1 technology.
Using a smart sharpening technique, RIS 2 can increase the clarity of games, video, and other desktop elements. Unlike RIS 1, it works PC-wise as a 1-clock solution. With RIS 2, AMD can use its sharpening technology more widely and deliver a larger visual impact. It is no longer limited to web browsers, certain apps, and games using specific graphical APIs.
RIS 2 is one of many smart driver features that AMD is adding to its software package. Alongside RIS 2, AMD is releasing Fluid Motion Frames 2.1. AFMF 2.1 improves AMD’s driver-level Frame Generation technology. Note that both of these technologies will become available with AMD Software version 25.3.1.
