AMD’s new FSR 3.1 upscaler is now available in Five Nixxes PC games

AMD’s FSR 3.1 tech will be available to all developers next month, and gives an easy upgrade path to future versions of FSR

AMD’s new FSR 3.1 technology is now available as part of five PC games, all of which are Nixxes PlayStation PC releases. Next month, FSR 3.1 will become available to all developers, allowing all developers to make use of AMD’s enhanced upscaling solution.

With enhanced temporal stability and ghosting reduction, FSR 3.1 delivers higher quality upscaling results than FSR 3.0. Furthermore, FSR Frame Generation has been decoupled from FSR Super Resolution, allowing it to be used with alternative upscaling solutions.

Another addition to the FSR API is a simplified upgrade path for developers. This change should allow game developers to upgrade their titles to the newest version of AMD FSR with ease. That’s good news for when FSR 3.2, 3.3, or other future FidelityFX Super Resolution versions arrive.

Upscaling image quality improvements:

  • Improved temporal stability, reducing flickering and shimmering.
  • Enhanced ghosting reduction and better detail preservation

Enhanced frame generation:

  • Decoupled frame generation technology that works seamlessly with other upscaling solutions.

Upgradable FSR API:

  • Simplified upgrades for developers to future versions of FSR.

Developer Support:

  • Added support for Vulkan and Xbox Game Development Kit (GDK).

Below we can se FSR 3.1 in action in Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart. Note that this case uses FSR 3 in Performance Mode at 1080p. This a pretty much a worst case scenario for any modern upscaler. AMD’s new upscaler is now available in Spider-Man Remastered, Spider-Man Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Ghost of Tsushima, and Horizon: Forbidden West. The upscaler will also be available in God of War: Ragnarok on day-1.

FidelityFX Super Resolution 3.1 will be available for all developers sometime next month. This means that we should expect a lot of game developers to upgrade to AMD’s newest upscaler within the next few months. Perhaps now CD Projekt Red will finally deliver the FSR 3 update that they promised for Cyberpunk 2077.
