Bioware Teases “The Next Mass Effect”

Bioware has confirmed that a “veteran team” are now working on a new Mass Effect title, returning the franchise to the Milky Way galaxy with what appears to be a successor to the original Mass Effect trilogy.

At 2020’s The Game Awards, Bioware released the teaser trailer below, showcasing familiar wreckage and audio from the original trilogy. This teaser then sees a ship journey to an ice planet where an Asari picks up a piece of N7 armour.

The Asari shown in the trailer is likely to be Mass Effect’s Liara T’soni, though this factor does not give us a lot of information to play with. Asari can live for 1,000 years, which means that Bioware’s new Mass Effect could take place immediately after or hundreds of years after the original trilogy.

Right now, all we know is that a new Mass Effect game is in the works, and we can only hope that the game is better calibrated than Andromeda. In the meantime, gamers on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and next-generation platforms can look forward to the launch of Mass Effect Legendary Edition, a remaster of the original trilogy, in Spring 2021.
