CD Projekt Red has been the victim of a “targeted cyber attack”

The creators of Cyberpunk 2077 have fallen victim to a “targeted cyber attack”, which has compromised many of the company’s internal systems. The data breach has also seen attackers leave with source code for Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3, Gwent and a lot of the company’s financial documents. 

CD Projekt Red has confirmed that they do not be negotiating with these attackers, who have threatened to leak their source code onto the web and hand their documents to journalists. It has also been confirmed that the hackers have encrypted CD Projekt Red’s files, though the company has confirmed that their backups remain intact. 

In an unusual twist, CD Projekt Red has released the demands of their attackers online, which claims that the group has source code for an unreleased version of The Witcher 3. CD Projekt Red has already contacted the relevant authorities, and plan to investigate the breach alongside law enforcement. 

PC gamers should note that this breach does not have anything to do with GOG, the PC gaming platform that is part of the CD Projekt Group. No user details have been stolen, as this breach only relates to CD Projekt Red, the developers of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. This data breach should not negatively impact gamers.
