Civilization VI’s September 2019 Patch is a Gamechanger – Includes Battle Royale Mode

Firaxis have officially released Civilization VI’s September 2019 patch, promising gamers performance improvements, gameplay changes as a free game mode called “Red Death”.

Performance-wise, PC gamers can expect Civilization VI to run with reduced memory usage and a wide range of performance enhancements thanks to the new patch. Significant levels of optimisation have been made to the game’s volcano effects, as well as several leader screens.

Other major changes revolve around the empowering of coastal cities and Great Admirals, a gameplay change which is designed to enhance gameplay variety by opening up more playstyles. With this change, Great Admirals will be more highly sought after, and coastal cities will become more powerful. Tier 4 governments also receive a buff by allowing users to select additional policy cards.

A more comprehensive list of gameplay changes is available in the trailer below. These changes are fully detailed in the patch notes for Civilization VI’s September 2019 patch.

Civilization VI’s September 2019 patch also ships with a large number of new map types. These new maps are designed to enhance gameplay variety by offering players new gameplay scenarios to explore.

In addition to these new maps, a new online multiplayer mode called “Red Death” has been added to Civilization VI, offering an experience that’s similar to “Battle Royale” modes from other games. In this mode, players will be pitted against each other in a scenario where there are no cities. Players will work to avoid the “Red Death”, a contracting ring of radiation, and death, which will slowly consume the map.

In this mode, players will work to become the last team standing while exploring ruins and scavenging military units and other equipment. The aim of the game is to survive, and the game’s last player will be able to escape the dying world and journey into space.
