Developer reveals Unreal Engine 5.5 FPS boost with custom benchmark
Dev creates Unreal Engine 5.5 benchmarking tool – Almost 20% faster than the Unreal Engine 5.4 version
Open Games and Dev has released a free Unreal Engine 5.5 benchmark called “Electric Bench,” which showcases the potential of Epic Games’ latest Unreal Engine iteration. This tool can showcase Unreal Engine 5’s features, such as Substrate, Lumen, Virtual Shadows, Virtual Textures, and Nanite. The tool also features ray tracing and path tracing support.
An older Unreal Engine 5.4 version of this benchmark is already available, allowing us to compare both versions of Unreal Engine 5. Using their Radeon RX 7800 XT, Open Game and Dev has highlighted the performance benefits of Unreal Engine 5.5 below. Overall, the benchmark runs 17.8% faster using Unreal Engine 5.5.

This new benchmarking tool highlights the benefits of using the latest version of Unreal Engine 5. With almost 20% performance gains, developers should be tempted to transition their projects to Unreal Engine 5.5. After all, these free performance gains should help their projects run faster on both PC and console hardware. For gamers, that means more stable performance, and sharper (higher resolution) gameplay.
The creator of this mod has made this benchmarking tool available through a Google Drive link on the YouTube video above. We have not downloaded the tool, and cannot confirm the legitimacy of the files available through this link. Download this benchmark at your own risk.
This benchmark gives us an interesting look at Unreal Engine, and how its performance has changed with version 5.5. One has to wonder how this benchmark would run on even older versions of UE5. How much slower would this tool run on Unreal Engine 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, or 5.3?
